Alec Merkt-Caprile

Alec runs his own wine business focused upon consultancy, education and events. Self-describing himself as a “mutt”, Alec has in his travels “experienced almost every kind of racism”, but also has “been welcomed and enjoyed generosity from every kind as well”. Alec’s journey in wine has been multi-faceted, working for the LCBO (Ontario’s alcohol monopoly), being a sommelier and a wine director in the hospitality sector, and now running his own business. Alec is pursuing his MW studies, as he feels it will enhance his ability to fulfil his driving passion: teaching, empowering and mentoring others. To this end, Alec has already developed master classes within his local wine/hospitality community, including an educational partnership with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Perhaps Alec says it best himself: “I yearn to not only lead by example, but to also offer guidance and encouragement in any way I can to anyone I can”.
