Amrita Singh
An Indian business woman living in Bordeaux, Amrita has her own company, www.amritasinghstudios.com, which focuses on consultancy projects around wine brands, wine education and luxury wine experiences. She is also a registered coach at the Kedge Business School Career Centre. Born and raised in India, she tasted wine for the first time only in 2004, as the general preference in the country has been for spirits. In the years following that, her curiosity and interest in wine deepened, and she explored this while travelling abroad. Throughout her journey, Amrita has come across “so many wine snobs”, which made her realise the importance of wine education. In 2018, she decided to give up an established career in the fashion industry to pursue her passion for wine. She completed an MSc in Wine and Spirits Management from KEDGE Business School, along with the WSET Level 3 in Wines, which was followed by her achieving the WSET Diploma in Wines. She also created and self-funded her company during the pandemic in 2020. She has invested everything she has into wine education and building her company, all in the service of her “love of wine”. Amrita’s ultimate dream is to pursue the Master of Wine qualification, with the view of becoming the next Indian MW out of “a population of 1.38 billion” Indians. India’s wine market is expected to grow dramatically and therefore she feels that the industry needs a strong, globally recognized wine community. India also has the largest youth population in the world; Amrita would thus like to “create innovative content to educate” young people on wine and its responsible consumption, as well as “positively influence passionate women to embark on a journey of wine”. Amrita recently spearheaded the creation of an Indian Sommelier Association, affiliated to the International Sommelier Association (ASI) - the first of its kind in the country and allowing sommeliers to participate in global sommelier competitions of the highest calibre.
