Carrie Rau

Carrie’s journey in wine began when she realised that the expense of attending University would be beyond her means. Not one to be deterred, she instead turned her energies towards the study of wine and gastronomy. She has worked as a chef, a sommelier and as a wine educator, and is a passionate advocate for greater inclusion in the wine industry. She is a Co-Founder of Vinequity, a Canadian non-profit opening door to education and professional experience for wine professionals from underrepresented communities, and is a supporter of Femmes du Vin, which promotes and amplifies women in the wine industry through scholarships, education and mentorship. She intends to use the greater visibility and opportunities offered by her Scholarship to enhance her advocacy and help her bring about greater positive change in the wine sector.

“I am thrilled to have this once in a lifetime opportunity and the impact it will have on my community. I'm looking forward to..... being able to inspire other young, indigenous and hospitality folk to follow their dreams. I truly appreciate this honour - Thank you”
