Miriam Nuñez Martinez
Mexico
Miriam Nuñez Martinez originally studied to become a chef, holding a BA in Gastronomy, but early on in her career her passion for wine led her to "trade (her) chef's knife for a corkscrew". This choice has enabled her to explore multiple angles of the wine industry - her experience includes being head sommelier in a restaurant, working as an on-trade sales manager and as a harvest intern. These days she works independently as a consultant, educator, and wine communicator.
Miriam has also tried her hand at sommelier competitions. To date she has won two national competitions, Taittinger's Somm d’Or and the Jeune Sommelier Selecton from the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, both of which allowed her "the honour of representing Mexico internationally".
Miriam's great love, however, lies in education. She teaches the Sommelier Postgraduate Degree at Escuela Culinaria Internacional, her alma matter, and she runs wine courses online for wine enthusiasts across the country.
