For 1 Scholar to undertake the OIV Master of Science in Wine Management degree, as well as an optional Internship at Barclays Center in New York City

The Degree Programme

The Scholar will partake in the OIV MSc in Wine Management’s unique, multi-faceted curriculum, completing 30 modules over a period of 18 months, travelling across 4 continents in the process, and honing themself into a true manager and decision maker of the wine sector.

This degree, created in 1986 with OIV support, is today managed by l'Institut Agro Montpellier, which provides students with a Postgraduate specialist diploma in vine and wine management.

The goal is to master all aspects of the management of the vine and wine industry (marketing, economy, strategy, law, finance...) by offering concrete intelligence of the international environment via itinerant, multidisciplinary and experience-based training.

While undertaking the OIV MSc programme, the Scholar will also benefit from the support and guidance of the OIV MSc and Alumni Network, consisting of nearly 600 members of 40 different nationalities, and who will aid the Scholar in their transition from study to work at the conclusion of their degree.

Who is providing the Brooklyn Nets & New York Liberty Foundation OIV MSc Scholarship?

Liquid Icons is hosting The Golden Vines® Awards Ceremony & Dinner scheduled to take place in Paris, France on 13th-15th October 2023 (the “Golden Vines® event”). At that event, funds will be raised from a Fine Wine, Rare Spirit & Experience Global Online Charity Auction, as well as a Sotherby’s Live Auction on the evening, for the Gérard Basset Foundation (the “Charity”). For the Brooklyn Nets & New York Liberty Foundation OIV MSc Scholarship in association with the Gérard Basset Foundation and the Golden Vines®, the Charity and the Brooklyn Nets & New York Liberty Foundation will provide half of the funding, with the other half being provided by the OIV MSc network.

Who can apply?

The Brooklyn Nets & New York Liberty Foundation OIV MSc Scholarship in association with the Gérard Basset Foundation and the Golden Vines® (hereinafter ‘OIV MSc Scholar or Scholarship’) is aimed at improving social inclusion within the wine industry, and therefore it is available for any student who wishes to study for the OIV MSc in Wine Management qualification and who feels that their being awarded the OIV MSc Scholarship will improve social inclusion within the wine industry.

The OIV MSc Scholar can be located anywhere in the world. The OIV MSc Scholar needs to be able to show and confirm that they meet the requirements set out for application to the OIV MSc in Wine Management programme: 

OIV MSc in Wine Management Course Information

Students must have a special interest in the wine sector and a feeling for its products, as well as its economic dimension to benefit fully from this training program. The course is designed for people who are motivated and who have successfully completed three or four years of university studies and have been granted a degree equivalent to a Bachelor, Masters, IUP, Laurea, BA-BSc 4, Licenciatura, Hauptstudium 3… in the field of management studies, social sciences, or science and technology. Their motivation must be linked to a commitment to a professional project specifically oriented toward the vine and wine industry.

A good working knowledge of French and English is essential.

Depending upon the candidate’s professional experience and personal project, graduates from all academic backgrounds may nevertheless be considered for admission.

It is also possible to take the course as a modular programme; the course could be scheduled over two or three years in this case, according to a timetable approved by the Director of Studies.

International equivalent qualifications and particular applications are examined by the AUIV Scientific and Training Committee, currently presided over by l’Institut Agro Montpellier, who grants the degree. As a matter of convention, the administrative and financial procedure is handled by l’Institut Agro Montpellier.

The OIV MSc Scholar will be chosen by a committee of judges (hereinafter the ‘Judges’):

What is the deadline for applications for 2023?

What is the process after I apply within the deadline?

The Judges will prepare a shortlist of candidates, who will be invited to interview. Interviews will then be conducted, with the applicants being informed of the Judges’ decision by 18 July 2023.

What criteria do the Judges apply in awarding the OIV MSc Scholarship?


Assuming the applicant has reached the requisite requirements for the OIV MSc in Wine Management programme (as detailed above), then the Judges will award the OIV MSc Scholarship on the basis of:

  • Ability

  • Likelihood of successfully completing the OIV MSc in Wine Management course

  • Likelihood of successfully passing the OIV MSc in Wine Management course

  • Candidate’s potential contribution to promoting inclusion, diversity, excellence, interaction and learning in the global wine community.

  • Financial needs

What does the OIV MSc Scholarship comprise?

A financial award of up to 42,000€.

The funding provided to the OIV MSc Scholar covers:

  • - Tuition fees: 13,900€*

  • - A maintenance grant of 7,100€ paid monthly over 10 months, from September 2023 to June 2024*

  • - A mobility grant of 21,000€, paid in predetermined instalments, to fund the essential travel required to undertake the necessary educational courses and studies to complete the OIV MSc in Wine Management course in full*

* The financial component of the Scholarship may be tax-exempt, in part or in whole, depending upon where the Scholars reside. Scholars need to consult their tax advisors accordingly

An optional, 90-day paid internship (US$18 per hour) at Barclays Center in New York City, gaining real-world experience in the realm of hospitality and beverage management in a tier one operation. The internship will build upon the Scholar’s knowledge developed during their OIV MSc course, giving them the opportunity to apply it in a range of real-world situations, from hospitality to marketing. Topics and competencies that will be covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Inventory Management

  • Pricing scheme

  • Purchasing strategy

  • Employee management

  • Vendor relationships

  • Staff education

  • Service and guest interaction

  • Review of performance of products

The non-financial component of the OIV MSc Scholarship comprises:

  • Associated press commitments related to the award of their OIV MSc Scholarship for the duration of their OIV MSc studies

Scholars will be required to make their own travel and/or work visa arrangements in respect of any countries that they are visiting during their OIV MSc in Wine Management programme. For Scholars wishing to undertake the Internship option at Barclays Center, they will need to make their own travel and/or work arrangements and liaise with the Brooklyn Nets concerning start dates.
