The Scholarship

Dom Pérignon, the renowned Champagne House known for producing only the best vintage expressions of Grand Cru sites across multiple stages of ‘Plenitude’, is proud to announce the creation of a brand new Golden Vines® Scholarship.

The winner of the Dom Pérignon Golden Vines® MW Scholarship will undertake an incredible 4-week internship at Dom Pérignon, working alongside the winemaking team. The Scholarship winner will acquire an in-depth, first-hand and thus valuable understanding and knowledge of Dom Pérignon, Champagne and the fine and luxury wine sector in general.

The winner will also be funded to undertake their Master of Wine (MW) qualification, widely regarded as the pinnacle of wine education.

NB: Candidates need to have intermediate French conversational capability, and therefore French language lessons may be required before joining (the costs of which will be included as part of the funding scheme).

The Scholar will work alongside the renowned winemaking team of Dom Pérignon. The Scholarship winner will acquire an in-depth, first-hand and thus valuable understanding and knowledge of Dom Pérignon, Champagne and the fine and luxury wine sector in general.

Application Process, Terms & Conditions

Liquid Icons is hosting The Golden Vines Awards Ceremony & Dinner scheduled to take place in Paris, France on 13-15 October 2023 (the “Golden Vines event”). At that event, funds will be raised from a Fine Wine, Rare Spirit & Experience Global Online Charity Auction, as well as a Sotheby’s Live Auction on the evening, for the Gérard Basset Foundation (the “Charity”). The Charity will in turn fund the educational grant (and the French language course if required) of the Dom Pérignon Golden Vines® MW Scholarship, while Dom Pérignon will fund the Internship Programme.

Who is providing the Dom Pérignon Golden Vines® MW Scholarship?

Who can apply?

The Dom Pérignon Golden Vines® MW Scholarship (hereafter ‘Dom Pérignon Scholar or Scholarship’) is open to a wide range of applicants from historically marginalised communities, and the Scholar will be asked to explain to the Judges in their own words why they identify as belonging to a historically marginalised community. The Dom Pérignon Scholar may be located anywhere in the world, but must be willing and able to travel to France for their Internship Programme. The Dom Pérignon Scholar may already be enrolled on the MW course, or may not yet have started the course. If they fall into the latter category, then they need to be able to show and confirm that they meet the requirements set out for application to the relevant programme:

How do I apply?

Along with the application form, applicants need to submit one signed letter of reference and recommendation provided by a senior wine (or spirits) trade professional with over 15 years of experience in the trade. The letter of reference and recommendation should detail why the referee thinks the applicant should be awarded a Dom Pérignon Scholarship and would benefit from the Dom Pérignon Scholarship’s Internship Programme and Education Grant.

What is the process after I apply within the deadline?

Between 10 July - 20 July the Judges will review your applications and you may be invited to be interviewed. You will then find out in August whether you have been awarded the Scholarship or not.

What criteria do the Judges apply in awarding the Dom Pérignon Scholarship?

Assuming the applicant satisfies the requirements for the MW (as detailed via the links above), then the Judges will award the Dom Pérignon Scholarship on the basis of:

  • Ability

  • Likelihood of successfully completing the MW

  • Candidates potential contribution to promoting diversity, excellence, interaction and learning in the global spirits community, as well as the applicant’s interest level and time availability to participate in the Diversity Scholarship & Internship Programme in Spirits

  • Financial needs

  • Visa requirements to partake of the Internship programme

What does the Dom Pérignon Scholarship comprise?

  • An in-depth 4-week paid Internship Programme at Dom Pérignon, which will comprise working in close contact with the Dom Pérignon winemaking team.*

  • An Educational Grant of £12,500, to fund the Dom Pérignon Scholar’s MW  studies, paid by the Gérard Basset Foundation.*

* The financial component of the Scholarship may be tax-exempt, in part or in whole, depending upon where the Scholars reside. Scholars need to consult their tax advisors accordingly

  • Funding for a French Language course to develop the prerequisite linguistic skills for your internship (if necessary).

  • Further components of the Dom Pérignon Scholarship include:

    • Invitation from Dom Pérignon to attend the Golden Vines® Award Ceremony & Dinner in Paris, France on their table in the year of your scholarship (for 2023, 13-15 October)

    • Associated press commitments related to the award of their Dom Pérignon Scholarship

  • The Scholar will be required to make their own travel and/or work visa arrangements in respect of any countries that they are visiting during their Scholarship programme.
